As part of Aarhus Summer University, in Denmark, the linguistics section offers a three-week course on new languages called "Erupting languages".
Summer University BA Course: Erupting languages: the spontaneous development of new languages: pidgins, creoles, mixed languages and twins' languages. 27 July - 14 August 2026, Aarhus, Denmark.
The course covers the genesis of new languages and new grammars. The student is given a general introduction to pidgins (spontaneous trade languages), creoles (newly emerged community languages, mixed languages and the languages created by some twin pairs. Students are also given an introduction to the theoretical approaches within the area of languages in contact and contact languages. Workload: 10 ECTS.
